CITY OF FOUNTAINS
With over 200 fountains located throughout, Kansas City has earned the nickname, The City of Fountains. The first of these fountains were originally erected to serve dogs, horses, and birds in the early 1800's. Later on, prominent real estate developer, JC Nichols, started integrating fountains and sculptures to beautify his properties and provide Kansas City with a look of distinction. Now, fountains adorn the city with beautiful larger-than-life centerpieces, as well as petite water sculptures, and give Kansas City the well-earned moniker, The City of Fountains.
