With over 200 fountains located throughout, Kansas City has earned the nickname, The City of Fountains. The first of these fountains were originally erected to serve dogs, horses, and birds in the early 1800's. Later on, prominent real estate developer, JC Nichols, started integrating fountains and sculptures to beautify his properties and provide Kansas City with a look of distinction. The New York Black Yankees were founded in Harlem under the name Harlem Black Bombers in 1931 and were eventually invited to play in the Negro National League in 1936. Some notable players included Satchel Paige, Fats Jenkins, and Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe. The team played its last season in Rochester, NY in 1948. The Memphis Red Sox were a Negro League Baseball team that was active from 1923 to 1950. The franchise fielded a team in the Negro National League each season from 1924 to 1930, except the 1926 season when they joined the Negro Southern League. In 1937, Memphis became a charter member of the Negro American League and won the first half championship with a 21-4 record. The Red Sox remained in the league until 1950, but never contended for a title again. This vintage t-shirt honors the rich history of this Negro League ball club. The Baltimore Black Sox started as an independent team in 1916 and were one of the six original teams to make up the Eastern Colored League in 1923. The Black Sox boasted the "Million Dollar Infield" made up of Jud "Boojum" Wilson (first base), Frank Warfield (second base), Oliver "Ghost" Marcelle (third base), and Sir Richard Lundy (shortstop). This nickname was given to them by the media because of the prospective worth had they been white players. The Hilldale Athletic Club was a professional baseball team located in Darby, Pennsylvania. The club started as an amateur team of local young men that eventually worked their way up to the professional stage. Best known for their colorful antics, the Clowns were also a sound baseball team. Led by a young cross-handed slugger from Mobile, Alabama named Henry Aaron, the clowns won the Negro American League championship in 1952. The Clowns fielded such stars as Buster Haywood, Woody Smallwood and showman Goose Tatum. They played in the Negro American League from 1944-1955. The Atlanta Black Crackers had a short stint in the Negro American League but made the most of it. At the beginning of the 1938 season there were two teams vying for to represent Atlanta in the Negro American League. The teams combined to play under the name Atlanta Black Crackers and continued to improve and won the second half title. The Newark Eagles were formed after two teams joined forces to make their mark on history; the Brooklyn Eagles and Newark Dodgers. The team joined the Negro National League in 1936 and were a force to be reckoned with until the league's demise in 1948. The Eagle's all-time highlight is when they won the Negro National League pennant and beat the Kansas City Monarchs in the 1946 World Series. The Z-Man from Joe's Kansas City is almost famous as the name George Brett, here in Kansas City, but little know the origin of the sandwich. In 1997, Joe's was approached by a local sports talk radio host by the name of Mike Zarrick, whose growing nickname was "Z-Man". Mike wanted to partner with Joe's to hold a contest to name a new BBQ sandwich that owner, Jeff Stehney, had recently created. Fans of the show came in and wanted to order the sandwich, but since it didn't have a name yet they just called it "that Z-Man sandwich". The contest yielded a winning name, but it never stuck since everyone was already calling it the "Z-Man". KC MONARCHS BASEBALL TEE

It was a best-of-nine match-up between the Negro League National champion Kansas City Monarchs and the Eastern Colored League champion Hilldale giants. The Monarchs narrowly defeated Hilldale 5 games to 4, with one tie game. It was the first World Series between the respective champions of the NNL and ECL in the second year of existence for the ECL, but no agreement could be reached in 1923 for a post-season series, owing primarily to unresolved disputes between the leagues. Five members of the Baseball Hall of Fame participated in the series: Biz Mackey, Judy Johnson, and Louis Santop played for Hilldale, while Bullet Rogan and Jose Mendez played for the Monarchs. In addition, Monarchs owner J.L. Wilkinson was also inducted into the Hall. Kansas City Blades were a professional ice hockey team in the International Hockey League from 1990–2001 until the demise of the league after the 2000–01 season.
